Significance of Computer Network Security

Personal computers have tremendously impacted modern business and likewise, networking has greatly impacted computers. But networking is accompanied by security threats which, if mitigated permit the advantages of communication to offset the risks. Risks of poor computer network security include intrusion, theft and destruction of digital property.

History of Computer Networking
The birth of modern computer networking took place in 1969 with the broadcast of the letters “L” and “O” among computers kept at the University of California, Los Angeles. During the early 70s, a researcher of Xerox had created a passive connection standard known as Ethernet, which would ultimately form the strength for all LANs (Local Area Network). At the start of the early 80s, the Defense Department of USA developed Transmission Control Protocol, or TCP, and Internet Protocol, or IP that would become the basis for all computer network security. They have grown tremendously since then but still depend on the core technologies to facilitate communication.

Sharing Resources
Computers can share files through the server or directly with each other. The inscription of programs takes place which divides a task uniformly among computers connected to a network which decreases the time required for that task. The primary role of computer servers is to have a single machine carry out various tasks for many others. Messages and emails have almost replaced letters and memoranda.

Consequences of Computer Network Security
At the minimum, network security permits you the access to internet while safeguarding your personal, network-connected resources from threats. Although the biggest threats arrive from the internet, security must be installed to inhibit internal users from mishandling of resources, or internal computers affected by viruses from avoiding security measures. The security devices connected to the internet include content filters, firewalls and intrusion prevention sensors.
